All Things Business
How did JOYDay Movement come to form? What was the idea that started it all?
JOYDay is a reflection of my life. The idea started off as a conversation that I couldn’t stop thinking about.
What is JOYDay Movement? What problems or pain points are you looking to solve through this platform?
This platform is to help our community (the black community) as well as other communities realize that taking care of your mental health is not only important but essential to living a healthier life.
As an entrepreneur, often times you are required to make tough decisions. On the topic of: Competition vs Collaboration. What is the biggest myth you’ve learned to be untrue?
Collaboration is actually everything! Everyone should collaborate as much as possible.
Give an example of how collaboration has benefited JOYDay Movement.
Well, it’s helped an increasing number of people to understand the purpose of the movement. It has also given me the opportunity to receive ideas on how to better JOYDay as a whole.
In order for a business to thrive the leader must thrive as well. What self – care routines or rituals are a necessity for keeping you sane while growing your business or brand?
When I am starting to feel overwhelmed by it all:
- I always get my nails done, eyebrows snatched, and hair slayed.
- I also journal on the regular. Journaling helps me relax. Whether it’s writing a poem or writing about my day.
- I try to get fresh air so my mind can be clear when things get hectic.
What marketing strategies have you used to attract and find new leads for business growth?
- Social media.
- Asking my viewers what they would like to see come from the movement.
- Be as consistent as possible.
Customer Service or the customer’s overall experience is crucial when it comes to brand longevity. What experiences have you created for your clientele or audience?
I try to be as personable as possible. If someone reaches out to me I make it my duty to reach back to them personally as well as listening to their concerns (whatever they may be) you have to treat others the way you’d wish to be treated as a customer.
What are some accomplishments of JOYDay Movement? And where do you see its future?
Well it’s only been six months and we have already been able to create a website, following, a safe place to share mental health stories as well as having a blog with 10+ contributors.
In the future, I see us working within the school system to better explain and help children understand the importance of mental health. Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of because in reality numerous people deal with depression, anxiety, etc.
I describe a Mindshift as a moment in time, where one realizes, there is more to life than what society has told. Can you describe your Mindshift moment?
My mindshift moment was when I was in my freshman year of college. I realized that I could be the one to make the change I want to see. Instead of waiting for someone else to be that change. It was like a moment where God showed me who he was calling me to be.
What advice can you give to other entrepreneurs?
You’ve made it too far to give up now. Continue to keep your faith in God.
Lastly, think about what living life on your own terms means to you. Describe your ideal situation.
My ideal situation, wow, I believe that my ideal situation consist of me:
- Helping others day in and day out,
- Having my own design studio
- A program within schools to help educate students on their mental health.
- I also see a program similar to the boys and girls club (can’t get into the details) but that is my ideal situation.
